Put on the party hats, cue the confetti and strike up the band: Minnesota's 150th anniversary party kicked off with a jazz flourish on January 12 with the Roseville Winter Jazz Blast, the first of hundreds of Sesquicentennial events celebrating one and a half centuries of statehood. The event marked the debut of the official Minnesota state anniversary song, which will be heard at events throughout the year. Jane Leonard was on hand to unveil the first-ever public performance of Shines For All To See, commissioned by the Roseville Visitors Association. The song was composed by Dean Sorenson, Director of Jazz Studies at the University of Minnesota and performed by JazzMN Big Band, directed by Dr. Doug Snapp with featured vocalists Judy Donaghy and T. Mychael Rambo.
