Unique in the state of Minnesota, the Fifth Annual, award winning*, Roseville Winter Jazz Blast, sponsored by the Roseville Visitors Association, is coming January 14, 2012. It's your chance to take a welcome break from winter's grip, while you enjoy the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul, Minnesota. This festival will take place at Maranatha Auditorium on the beautiful Northwestern College campus.

2012 promises to be a great event with the addition of special guest artist Mike Stern playing with the JazzMN Orchestra!

This middle and high school instrumental jazz ensemble festival encourages a positive, educational experience:

• Clinics provided by professional jazz musicians and educators

SPECIAL GUEST ARTIST MIKE STERN

In a career that spans three decades and a discography that includes more than a dozen eclectic and innovative recordings, six-time GRAMMY nominee Mike Stern has established himself as one of the premier jazz and jazz-fusion guitarists and composers of his generation.Stern got his start as a guitar player with Blood, Sweat & Tears at age 22. Following a brief stint with Billy Cobham's powerhouse fusion band from 1979 to 1980, he moved to New York City, where he was recruited by Miles Davis to play a key role in Miles' celebrated comeback band of 1981 (which also included bassist Marcus Miller, drummer Al Foster, percussionist Mino Cinelu and saxophonist Bill Evans). In August 2009, Stern released Big Neighborhood which was nominated for a GRAMMY for Best Contemporary Jazz Album.

COME HAVE A BLAST!

• Each ensemble is invited to perform three pieces
  
• Critiques are provided by two professional adjudicators
  
• All groups receive a 30-minute clinic session with one of their adjudicators
  
• Each ensemble receives a CD of its performance
  
• Students are given the opportunity to attend a Master Class Clinics
  
• Key student musicians will be individually recognized with certificates AND the top three student musicians of the day will be invited to perform onstage with JazzMN Orchestra during the evening performance
  
• Discount tickets for evening performance by JAZZ MN Orchestra featuring Special Guest Artist Mike Stern and the top ensemble from the day's performances
  
• Hotel discounts are available
  
• Registration is only $150.00 per band entry (entry fee will be waived for groups staying in a Roseville hotel)

Where:

The Roseville Winter Jazz Blast will be held at Maranatha Hall on the beautiful campus of Northwestern College in St. Paul, suburb of Roseville, Minnesota.

When:

Registration will begin at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 14, 2012 with the Festival starting at 8:30 a.m. and ending at 5:00 p.m.
