The Roseville Visitors Association (RVA) announced plans to host the Gus Macker 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament at the Guidant John Rose Minnesota OVAL August 11-12, 2007. Gus Macker is a popular tournament open to all ages. Participants must sign up in teams of four, in categories based on age, size and talent levels. Gus Macker began in 1974 in Lowell Michigan with 18 friends playing a competitive driveway basketball game. Tournaments are now hosted in over 75 cities with 200,000 players and 1.7 million spectators enjoying the event each year.

Although Gus Macker tournaments have been held downtown Saint Paul and in various east metro locations, this is the first year the OVAL will host the tournament. The OVAL will be transformed into basketball courts and become Mackerville this summer, and organizers are anticipating 400 teams and up to 5000 spectators. To register, or to volunteer, simply log on to www.visitroseville.com and click on the Gus Macker link.

The RVA has also recently launched a dedicated website for the Guidant John Rose Minnesota OVAL, where the tournament will be held. The OVAL is the largest outdoor refrigerated ice sheet in the world and contains a 400 meter skating track which surrounds an infield of four hockey rinks. In addition to hosting a variety of sports such as speed skating, hockey, bandy and recreational figure skating during the winter months, the OVAL is also available for in line skating and other events from May through September. The new website, www.skatetheoval.com, provides great photos and a detailed description of OVAL activities as well as a calendar of tournaments and special events. Visitors can also access the OVAL website via the RVA website www.visitroseville.com.

"The OVAL is such a popular facility for Roseville and hosts so many special events, that we felt it deserved its own presence on the web, but we also wanted to make it easy for visitors to get all their information on Roseville happenings by visiting one site. " said Julie Larson, executive director of the RVA. "So visitors interested in Gus Macker or a skating schedule or any other events can go to www.visitroseville.com and get the specific OVAL information they're looking for with one easy click."

The Roseville Visitors Association was established in 2000, and markets the area's nine hotel properties, attractions and special events to visitors, tour groups and corporate meeting planners. True to its tagline "Perfectly Positioned," Roseville is conveniently situated just north of downtown Saint Paul and Minneapolis, just minutes from the Twin Cities¹ major museums, theaters, attractions and major league sporting facilities.
