Shines For All To See Celebrates Minnesota's 150th Anniversary

ROSEVILLE, MN (January 18, 2008) -- From the forest to the prairie, to the waters blue with sky...It made its statewide debut on January 12, and now Minnesota's official anniversary song is available to be performed at school and community events in celebration of the state's yearlong Sesquicentennial.

Shines For All To See was performed publicly for the first time in January at the 2008 Roseville Winter Jazz Blast, the first of hundreds of Sesquicentennial events celebrating one and a half centuries of statehood. The song was commissioned by the Roseville Winter Jazz Blast and the Minnesota Sesquicentennial Commission, and composed by Dean Sorenson, Director of Jazz Studies at the University of Minnesota.

Now, the piece has been scored for any instrumental ensemble: Jazz Ensemble, Concert Band, String Orchestra, or any combination. The vocal part can be sung by a male or female soloist, or a full chorus. Full score and parts are available in PDF format for $50.00. For more information on performing this piece, please contact Dean Sorenson at soren048@umn.edu, or (612) 624-2334. More details, sheet music and an audio clip of the song are available at www.visitroseville.com/audio.

"We're encouraging communities, schools and groups across Minnesota to include Shines For All To See in their celebrations this year," said Jane Leonard, Executive Director of the Minnesota Sesquicentennial Commission. "It's a memorable, toe-tapping way to help build enthusiasm for the anniversary and acknowledge our state's rich history."
